I had my interview for seminary this morning. My interviewer asked me, “What is the most important thing you have learned about YOU? What is it that you know about YOU?”
I began to explain what I had learned through my faith deconstruction process. I lamented that so many of my life’s decisions have been based in fear instead of love, and since I’d thrown off the false construct of hell, I don’t have to live like that anymore. I care less and less what others think of me. Every day, I am more and more free to be exactly who I am. And I’ve recently come to the realization I very much like who I am.
She said, “Yes, I understand. But what is it that you know, beyond a doubt, about who YOU are?”
I responded with the most fundamental thing I have come to know about myself:
“I know my worth is wholly based on the fact I was called into creation. Nothing I do gives me worth. I exist. Therefore, I have worth.”
